Sustainability and a second life for furniture during a relocation
An office relocation is the perfect opportunity to give existing furniture a second life. When furniture is accurately inventoried before the move, informed decisions can be made for every chair and desk: whether to keep, refurbish, resell, or recycle. This is not only smart business — it is also documented sustainability work..
A Removal as an Opportunity, Not Just Logistics
Without an inventory, an office removal often leads to two unnecessary costs: buying new furniture needlessly because no one knows what already exists, and wasting usable furniture because its condition was not documented in time. Carrying out an inventory well ahead of the move turns this around — transforming the relocation into an opportunity to highlight what your company has already been doing right. When needed, we also inventory your office art, as well as AV and IT equipment.
Who Is Our Inventory Service For?
- All companiesfacing an upcoming relocation
- Companiesdirectly subject to CSRD/ESRS reporting mandates that require data on resource use and the circular economy.
- Companies and decision-makers wishing to communicate sustainability voluntarily — without a heavy reporting framework, but backed by concrete data.
- Interior architects. Leave the inventory work to us and focus your resources on design.
Hidden Potential – The Standing Desks
In an inventory, an adjustable standing desk is never just a "standing desk." A standing desk frame can often be shortened and fitted with a smaller top in a new color to suit the new space — a possibility many overlook without a proper inventory. At the same time, we assess whether the desk features cable pass-throughs and cable trays, as these directly impact how effectively the desk can be repurposed in the new location. This ensures you get maximum utility out of your standing desks instead of needlessly putting them into storage or recycling.
Why Is This Relevant Right Now?
The EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) was significantly streamlined following the 2025–2026 "Omnibus" reforms. Today, mandatory reporting primarily applies to very large enterprises (roughly over 1,000 employees or over €450 million in turnover), excluding the majority of businesses.
However, this does not mean the topic has lost its importance for smaller companies — quite the contrary:
- Value chain pressure is increasing. Large reporting companies are increasingly requesting sustainability data from their own subcontractors and service providers, even though these are not directly obligated to do so.
- Voluntary VSME light reporting is becoming more common. The voluntary reporting framework designed for small and medium-sized enterprises provides a way to communicate about sustainability without the full burden of the heavy CSRD.
- Funders and customers will ask anyway. Documented, transparent operations are increasingly a competitive advantage — not just a necessity.
Note: this page does not constitute legal advice. You should verify your company's exact reporting obligations with your own auditor or sustainability reporting expert.
How does inventory support sustainability work?
A detailed furniture inventory produces precisely the data that reporting on the circular economy and resource use requires — whether it is a matter of mandatory, voluntary or purely internal monitoring:
- Documented initial state. You know precisely what equipment there is, in what condition and to what extent — no retrospective estimates.
- Traceable decisions. Condition grading (A–D) and photographs of the individual items of furniture create an auditable trail: what was transferred to new use, what was refurbished, what was sold on and what was recycled.
- The result to be measured. Once the decisions have been documented, you can give concrete examples, such as what proportion of the furniture was saved from landfill thanks to reuse — a figure that can be included in your sustainability communications.
